Update - 6/30/2009
East Lake Resort is now at full operation. The café is open 6 days a week for breakfast and lunch 7am-4pm; always closed on Wednesdays. The coffee hut also opens at 7am, with espressos and lattes available for those early morning fishermen. Fishing from the bank has become much less productive now that the hot weather has arrived and the shoreline weeds have begun to grow; your best bet for catching a lot of fish is from a boat. The Callibaetis hatch began last week coinciding with the sunny warm days. Fly fishermen are doing quite well; most guys are throwing Leeches, Boogers, or Careys trailing a Prince Nymph, Hares Ear or Baetis Nymph or emerger on 24” of fluorocarbon leader. Most of the fly fishing is being done in the Hot Springs area and along the east shoreline from the resort down to Cinderhill. Intermediate lines are best, with some dry fly fishing in the evenings. Kokanee fishing has been fantastic with limits being very common. Most people are jigging Gibbs Minnows, Buzz Bombs, or Crippled Herrings although we have seen a lot of people trolling with success the last few days. The kokanee are beautiful this year, averaging around 12-14” with some pushing 16”. Most are being caught at 25' or less and the south shore and off of the rock cliffs are where the fish are. The largest brown trout this season is still the 12# 6oz buck caught by Dennis McGanty on June 2nd. It was caught on a 5-1/2" Trophy Stick; this beautiful fish was graciously released by Mr. McGanty for another fisherman to enjoy. We have heard rumors of a 20# fish caught and released last week, but with no pictures to verify we won’t boast about that one too much. Our fleet of aluminum fishing boats, including the patio boats (pontoons), are all in the water and ready to go. Continue to check this website for the most recent information as it becomes available. There are still cabins available for this summer during some prime time; so if you are thinking about coming up to East Lake Resort in 2009 we encourage you to reserve your cabins and RV sites as soon as possible as they will fill up. Reservations for cabins, RV sites, pontoon boats and moorage for 2009 season can be made using our website or by calling the office at 541-536-2230. Thank you for all of your support and we look forward to seeing you at the lake in 2009. Your hosts, David and Kathy Jones.
